1. What are the specific dimensions of the
Mechanical Seal Model 1045-45?
The Model 1045-45 comes pre-assembled with a
1.125 inch (1-1/8") shaft diameter and 1.75 inch (1-3/4") bore (or
stuffing box) diameter. Verify these measurements on your existing pump or
equipment for fit prior to buying.
2. What is "S/PTFE" in the product
description?
"S/PTFE" designates the primary
construction material of this seal. The metallic components (sleeve and spring)
are Stainless Steel for corrosion resistance. The bellows and other static
seals are made of PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene, or Teflon®) for satisfactory
chemical resistance.
3. Is this seal compatible with my specific
pump model?
The 1045-45 is a very widely used universal
seal replacement for the majority of standard ANSI process pumps (Goulds,
Durco, ITT, etc.) and other rotary equipment. Compatibility is based on your
pump's specific shaft size, bore size, and seal chamber configuration.
Cross-reference your pump manual or past seal part number to our specifications
at all times.
4. To which chemicals and fluids is this seal
resistant?
Because of its Stainless Steel and PTFE
construction, this seal has excellent resistance to aggressive fluids of a wide
range, including acids, caustics, solvents, salts, and chlorinated water. It is
also safe for general water, coolant, and hot water service up to its working
temperature. For chemical resistance to a specific chemical, consult a PTFE
chemical resistance chart.
5. What is the highest pressure and
temperature that this seal can handle?
While an individual rating might be slightly
different, a typical S/PTFE mechanical seal like the 1045-45 will be rated 150
PSI (10.3 Bar) and 400°F (204°C). Always stay within these ratings using your
operating parameters.
6. Single spring or multi-spring seal?
The Model 1045-45 has a single spring design.
This provides a uniform firm closing pressure and is typically simpler to clean
and service in viscous fluid application or where clogging is expected to be a
problem.
7. What are the face materials of this
mechanical seal?
This seal is typically shipped with a
standard, very consistent Carbon vs. Ceramic (SiC) face pair. The carbon rotary
face is very lubricating, and the ceramic stationary face is very
wear-resistant. Verify the actual face materials in product specifications or
with our sales personnel.
8. Is the seal bought as single unit or in
pair?
This seal is on sale as a whole single unit and
is ready to be installed. It comes with the rotary and stationary faces,
spring, and all the components needed to assemble together.
9. How does this seal differ from an OEM
component?
Our item number 1045-45 is to or exceeds OEM
specifications. We provide a direct substitute to be the exact fit, shape, and
function as the OEM item, usually at a reduced price, without reducing quality
or performance.
10. Do you warranty or guarantee this product?
Yes, we do. We stand behind the quality of our
products. This mechanical seal comes with a 1-year limited warranty against
material and workmanship defects for the normal use. For all details and terms,
please see our warranty policy page.
